Roles, invitations, and belonging to more than one organisation.
Everything in VUE belongs to an organisation: models, materials, embeds, analytics and branding. People belong to organisations through a membership, and a membership carries a role.
The first person to sign up creates the organisation. Everyone else should join it by invitation — if a second person signs up independently they get a second, separate organisation, and the two cannot see each other’s models. If that has already happened, raise a ticket and we can merge them.
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything a member can, plus managing the team — inviting people, changing roles, removing members — and the organisation’s settings, branding and plan. |
| Member | Uploading and deleting models, editing types, materials and presentation, creating and configuring embeds, and reading analytics. |
There is deliberately no read-only role. Analytics is the thing people usually want to share widely, and it is available to every member without giving anyone a reason to share a password.
Owners manage the team from Manage team in the account menu. Enter an email address and a role, and VUE produces an invitation link.
Two things worth knowing about invitations:
If the person already has a VUE account, the link adds your organisation to their existing account rather than asking them to create a second one. They sign in as normal and confirm.
One person can belong to several organisations — a consultant working for two manufacturers, or somebody who has their own trial account alongside their employer’s.
You only ever see one organisation at a time. There is no combined view, and nothing in one organisation is visible from another — including to you, while you are in the other one. This is the boundary the whole platform is built around rather than a display preference.
Your name, email, password and profile picture live in the account menu and follow you between organisations — they belong to you, not to a membership. Changing your password signs out every other session on every device.
Our support staff can enter your account to reproduce a problem you have reported. When that happens:
